Riverside College Sets Out Results Day Arrangements for August

Riverside College in Widnes has published arrangements for this summer’s results days. Level 3 BTEC and UAL results come first, followed a week later by GCSE and Level 2 results. Careers advisers and specialist staff will be on site on both mornings, and results will also be posted to Solar and student email accounts from 9am.

Level 3 BTEC and UAL results

Level 3 results are released on the national A level results day, with the college opening from 9am. Students collect at Kingsway Campus, Centre Stage, with staff available between 9am and 10am.

College staff, including careers advisers, will be there to talk through results, offer support, and give advice on clearing. Students who would rather not come in, or cannot, will find results posted on Solar and emailed to their college email account from 9am.

GCSE and Level 2 results

GCSE and Level 2 results follow a week later, again from 9am, collected at Kingsway, Main Reception. Specialist staff will be available between 9am and 10am.

GCSE results are also posted on Solar and sent to student email addresses from 9am. Students holding only Level 1/2 BTEC or UAL qualifications will find their results on Solar and do not need to come into college to collect them. Returning students can pick results up when they come back in September.

What to do if the results are not what you hoped

This is the section worth reading before the day rather than on it.

For students holding university offers: log into UCAS Track first. Universities receive results before students do, so the status shown on UCAS is often the fastest indication of whether an offer has been confirmed. A university may still accept an applicant who has narrowly missed the offer conditions, so a result below target does not automatically mean a rejection.

If both the firm and insurance choices have declined: the applicant becomes eligible for clearing. Clearing is the list of university courses with places remaining, and it operates first come, first served — which means speed matters more than deliberation on the day.

The college’s clearing advice: prepare in advance. The clearing list goes live before results day, so students should build a shortlist of around five courses they would consider, and write down the admissions phone numbers for each. On the morning itself, phone lines at popular institutions are busy within minutes, and a student searching from scratch at 9.30am is at a disadvantage against one already dialling.

Support available beyond clearing

University is one route among several. The college’s ACE team — Advice, Careers and Employability — covers apprenticeships, further study at a different level, and employment. Riverside runs apprenticeship vacancies across a range of sectors, and adult and higher education provision on the same campus.

Students who did not achieve the grades needed to progress internally should speak to staff on the day rather than assuming the door is closed; resits, alternative levels, and different course routes are usually available.
