About Widnes Life
Widnes Life is an independent local news site for Widnes, Runcorn and the wider borough of Halton.
We cover the things that actually shape life here: what the council decides and what it costs, what comes through the courts, what is happening at the Brindley and on the pitch, which businesses are opening and which are closing. Not press releases rewritten, and not a regional title covering Widnes when there is nothing else on.
What we cover
The site is organised into nine sections — News, Crime, Council, What’s On, Sport, Food & Drink, Announcements, Voices and a Local Business directory.
Widnes comes first, but the archive reaches across the borough and into Runcorn, Warrington and Chester where the story crosses over. You can browse by place as well as by section.
A short history
Widnes Life began publishing in 2018 and built up an archive of around 1,450 stories before going quiet in 2021. That archive is still here, still free to read, and still being maintained — nothing has been deleted. The site was rebuilt from the ground up in 2026 and is publishing again.
Who writes it
Widnes Life is edited by Luke Hilditch.
[Ownership and funding: one or two sentences on who publishes Widnes Life and how it pays for itself. Readers and Google News both look for this, and it should be your words rather than mine.]
Corrections and standards
We publish our editorial standards and corrections policy, including how we handle crime reporting, right of reply, and requests to update or remove an old story. If we have got something wrong, we want to know.
